To mark the one-year anniversary of the “Uncensored Library”, Reporters Without Borders opens two new rooms in the digital library against censorship. The Corona crisis, manipulated elections, populist presidents - the pressure on journalists has continued to rise in 2020. In response to current developments, Reporters Without Borders has added articles to the Uncensored Library from countries where censorship is increasingly used as a means to deprive the population of its right to free information.
In a digital launch event on World Day Against Internet Censorship (March 12), we will present the rooms live for the first time in the computer game Minecraft. Journalists whose articles have been censored will attend the event to talk about the restrictions they experience in their daily work.
Time: Friday, March 12, 2021 from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Place: live on the online platform BigBlueButton and RSF's social media channels.
The entire event will be held in English. Please e-mail us at event@reporter-ohne-grenzen.de to receive a login link to BigBlueButton.
In many countries, websites, social media and blogs are controlled by oppressive leaders. People have no access to free information. But even where media is blocked and controlled, Minecraft, the world's most successful computer game, is still accessible. Reporters Without Borders (RSF) uses this loophole to bypass internet censorship in the affected countries. Censored articles are republished as books in a digital library within the Minecraft computer game.
