Reporters Without Borders (RSF) offers two reporting fellowships each year, focusing on a journalistic project. Two media professionals who are exposed to particular difficulties and challenges due to their profession are invited to Berlin for six months.
The fellowships provide a protected space in which the selected candidates can continue to work on and complete their journalistic project. The project should be realizable within the set period of six months (in image, sound, or writing) and highlight new aspects and topics that are of social relevance. The aim is to publish the results of the project and, if possible, present them at a public event.
During the fellowship, participants are given the opportunity to dedicate themselves to their journalistic project without pressure. They also have the opportunity to expand their professional network and take advantage of various training opportunities. In addition, they can take advantage of psychosocial or psychotherapeutic services during their stay. During the stay in Berlin, visits to local media outlets are planned jointly with the participants in our other fellowship programs and this mutual exchange provides an enriching component of the yearly program.
At the end of the six months, the participants return to their home countries strengthened to continue with their journalistic work.
The fellowship recipients and their journalistic projects were supported by generous individual donations.
