Jos Chongtham ist Menschenrechtsaktivist und unabhängiger Journalist, der sich mit Menschenrechtsverletzungen, der Militarisierung des Nordostens Indiens und der Drogenwirtschaft in Manipur und Myanmar befasst. Er arbeitet als Referent bei Human Rights Alert, einer Nichtregierungsorganisation in Indien. Er überlebte eine Entführung durch staatlich geförderte bewaffnete Gruppen während des ethnischen Konflikts im indischen Bundesstaat Manipur. Außerdem engagiert er sich für den Schutz von Feuchtgebieten und Wildtieren in Indien, insbesondere des Loktak-Sees und des Sangai-Hirsches. Im Oktober 2025 wurde Jos Chongtham von RSF und der Elisabeth-Selbert-Initiative nach Deutschland eingeladen, um vorübergehend Schutz zu finden, sich als Journalist neu zu orientieren und sich zu erholen.

Jos Chongtham is a human rights defender and an independent journalist working on investigation on human rights violations, the militarization of the northeast territory of India, and the narco-economy in Manipur and Myanmar. He works as a researcher with Human Rights Alert, a non-governmental volunteer organization in India. He survived an abduction by the state-sponsored armed groups during the ethnic conflict in the Indian state of Manipur. He also works on conservation of wetlands and wildlife in India, especially the Loktak lake and the deer Sangai. In October 2025, Jos Chongtham was invited to Germany by RSF and the Elisabeth Selbert Initiative to find temporary protection, reorient himself as a journalist and rest.
